As in the past, the Conference Auction was an opportunity to acquire something really useful .. or precious .. or unique: all in the name of supporting Ausglass. The funds raised through the auction - more than $20,000 - went to the Vicki Torr Memorial Prize; the peer-selected award that goes to the artist whose piece has been voted on by members attending the conference exhibition.
The Auction came at the end of the Conference program - i.e. the afternoon of Sunday 29th - immediately before the Farewell Party. We were in a great venue - the historic Fitters Workshop - which sits adjacent to Canberra Glassworks. .. albeit that it was WARM!!
After finishing the conference's Sunday program at the National Gallery of Australia, we made our way back to 'the Fitters' and shared a glass of wine and nibbles before bidding began. With both 'silent' and live auctions there were opportunities to take home lots of 'goodies'.
- Auction viewing began at 4pm
- Silent auction from 5pm
- Live Auction at 6pm
OF COURSE, we cOULD only auction what we'd been given.
.. and there were many generous donors who gave us a great selection of glass-related object to bid on: art works, books, tools, supplies, workshops, facility-gifts .. even a t-shirt from the very first auglass conference! .. and of course ... those jeans!
